No-exam life insurance

Which applicants qualify for accelerated underwriting, how the process works, and what happens if you do not.

Many carriers now provide accelerated underwriting: for people within their age and amount thresholds, they use your application, prescription records, driving record and other data in place of a medical exam. Approvals sometimes come the same day. Each quote here indicates whether an exam is required, optional, or skipped for that product.

What it changes

Skipping the exam does not mean skipping scrutiny. Your answers get checked, and a policy issued on false information can be challenged for two years after issue. If the carrier's data raises concerns, you may be asked for additional testing; you can choose whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Generally people under sixty applying for amounts below the accelerated underwriting limit, with no serious health conditions and no tobacco use within the past year. Some carriers accept recent lab results from your doctor instead of an exam.

If an exam is needed, it is typically a 20-to-30-minute visit by a paramedic at your home or workplace in the Lynwood area, and it costs you nothing. Exams can help healthy applicants get a better rate, so it is not always a drawback.
